A crucial element in the reduction of challenging behaviour is understanding the function that the behaviour serves and replaceing it with a more appropriate, socially significant behaviour. Behaviour support services from a BCBA involves conducting a Functional Behavioural Assessment which includes interviews with parents and care-givers and a functional observation.
From this assessment, a Multi-Element Behaviour Support Plan will be designed to meet the clients individualised needs. Family members working closely with the individual will be trained to implement the behaviour support plan and work with the child to reduce the challenging behaviour thus improve the overall quality of life for the individual and family.
